Program Description
The Daily Planet was founded in 1969 to provide services to the Richmond homeless population. As part of the Daily Planet's commitment to providing the homeless population an opportunity and assistance in becoming self-sufficient, Project STRIVE was developed. Project STRIVE stands for Strengthening Teamwork, Responsibility, and Independence via Employment. The purpose of the program is to empower homeless individuals to successfully obtain education and employment. It provides basic job preparation skills such as resume writing, completing job applications, job interview etiquette. It also addresses barriers to employment such as criminal records and sporadic work history.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Provide one-on-one tutoring in all academic subjects, grade levels 6 through 12
Create lesson plans according to the needs of the participants
Meet with the program coordinator monthly to review progress
Qualifications:
At least one year of teaching experience and a bachelor's degree
Experience utilizing literacy and language arts curriculum
Knowledge of multiple learning styles and methods
Understanding of the needs of the homeless population
Ability to respond to participants' learning needs with innovative ideas and approaches to instruction
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to work independently
Time Commitment
Minimum of one 4-week session
1 hour per week
Available Hours: Monday - Friday 11:00AM - 1:00PM
